It’s also been described as the ability for adaptive and positive behaviour that enable individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life.

The areas of focus are:

  • self-awareness and empathy
  • coping with emotions and coping with stress
  • communication and interpersonal skills
  • decision-making and problem-solving
  • creative thinking and critical thinking (Department Of Mental Health World Health Organisation, Geneva 1999)
