Positive Identity

There are many people in the world today that would prefer to be someone else. They want to be taller, slimmer, have fairer skin; popular, talk like, walk like….. you name it. Why do we have such dubious desires? Eight words. WE ARE NOT COMFORTABLE IN OUR OWN SKIN!

In college, we have had various groups and formed cliques whom we felt we were important in various stages of our lives. Some groups showed wealth, some demonstrated intelligence or brilliance, and some exhibited good looks and charm. If you did not fit into any of these categories, you were either sidelined or ridiculed and looked down upon. On the contrary, if you had those qualities, but were not identified in a group, you will feel displaced and flawed.

Please note: there is nothing wrong aspiring to be someone, learning from people, having friends that are in the “in” crowd, but you must carve out a UNIQUE IDENTITY.

It is really tough being the way we are sometimes, and the reason we do not want to, is because WE LACK SELF CONFIDENCE.

Whatever you do, BE YOURSELF.

To do this, find out your insecurities. What makes you feel ashamed, insecure, or lose your confidence? Identify them; think on ways in which you can deal with them. It is shocking to know how people lose confidence for the following flimsy reasons: how short, fat or thin, hairy they are, or for the work they are engaged in, the house they live in, the person they married and the list goes on…

Analyse your worries. Once you have identified this, confide them to your true friends. Bear in mind that progress is evident when you have resolved the issues and carved out an identity for yourself.

Subsequently, identify your successes. Discover and unleash your talents. Everyone has something he or she is good at – find out what makes you tick, stand out from the crowd and create an audience! Harness that talent, behaviour, skill, character, gift … Feel comfortable about what you are good at and develop it gradually over time. You would be amazed at how much confidence was built by doing something you are good at.

Are you ready to develop or build on a positive identity today?
